Symbols in Medicine
Commonly used as a form of shorthand when documenting case histories, but sometimes they can be confused due to a person's penmanship or handwriting. Abbreviations, symbols and/or initials are not usually allowed in recording the final diagnosis or on the informed consent.
Below are the most commonly used ones.
ά lowercase alpha
β lowercase beta; prefix denoting the second of a series
γ lowercase gamma; prefix denoting third of a series
